Dear Parents/Guardians of 8th Grade Students:
Welcome to the start of the 2011-2012 school year! We are excited and look forward to working with you to help your child have a fun and successful school year. As your child embarks on his or her last year as a middle schooler, we know that as a parent you too want the best for your child so that the transition to high school is smooth. We would like to thank you in advance for your support and aid in implementing the 8th grade expectations below.
-
Regular attendance is a must! We all know that good attendance along with good work ethic lends to good academic performance. Just like a job, one needs to be present, work diligently, and give 100% in order to be successful.
-
Responsibility and accountability, along with respect, are significant factors in 8th grade. Students need to complete homework and projects on time. They need to read and study on a regular basis. They are also expected, along with their parents, to check their progress and grades on Skyward weekly. Students who earn poor grades and/or lack in work completion, may forfeit the privilege to participate in special events (movies, field trips, assemblies, etc…). Students will also be expected to meet promotion criteria to be eligible to be promoted and advance to the high school. (see student planner for criteria)
-
Appropriate behaviors are expected at all times. This includes academic, as well as, non-academic settings. Students will be held accountable for their choices and action in regards to behavior. We appreciate your support in promoting positive and cooperative interactions between/amongst students, staff, and community members.
Again, thank you in advance for your support and cooperation as we work together to help ensure that your child has a successful and memorable 8th grade experience. If you have any questions, please feel free to email or call any of the 8th grade teachers.
Sincerely,
The 8th Grade Team
