Thank you to the Mosinee School District Community for a wonderful first year as Superintendent of Schools. COVID-19 unfortunately has captured most of the headlines. The state mandated shutdown in the middle of March changed the end of the school year for Mosinee students and staff. We stayed focused on our summer plans including successfully running summer school in-person for over 600 students while continuing to provide summer activities like swim lessons, drivers ed, and summer weightlifting to mention a few things. We celebrated with the Class of 2020 two different times for most Seniors on August 7th as planned, but also in late May for several graduates who couldn’t make the August date due to enlisting in the United States Military. Congratulations to the Class of 2020! We look forward to many more years of celebrating graduates of the Mosinee School District.
The Mosinee School District continues to strive to ‘Expect the Best’ by being committed to:
-
Improve student progress academically and socially preparing them to be productive members of a multicultural society.
-
Promote partnerships with the community to create multiple opportunities for learning.
-
Foster life-long learners who are self-motivated with adaptability for future change.
The Mosinee School Board, working with the citizens of the entire school district, initiated a process for updating and improving the strategic plan. Over 70 members of the community met several times throughout the school year working with our facilitators providing feedback, desires, and wants for our school district to build a strategic plan that would focus our work for the next 3-4 years. The global pandemic halted this work due to our inability to gather one last time as was planned during the Spring of 2020. The strategic planning facilitators believe we have gathered enough information from the community to provide a rough draft in the Fall of 2020 with a mix of virtual and in-person feedback from our community group. The Strategic Plan will become the main focus for the school board after our successful reopening of school in-person on September 1st.
The Mosinee School District summer construction projects yielded several wonderful upgrades that will be evident to students, staff and the community. The high school received new energy efficient bathrooms, new lockers, and updated painting and sealing which eliminated the 50/60’s feel in the hallways. The middle school received a new energy efficient and fully operational elevator and updated painting to match the flow from the high school and Creske Center. The new front parking lot was completed right after the 4th of July serving the high school, middle school, and the Creske Community Center which includes the Pool, Auditorium, and Fab Lab. This new parking facility establishes a clear front to our high school, middle school, and community centers with a substantial upgrade in handicap accessibility and for those with limited mobility. We are adding an additional outside fingerprint entry between the middle school and the pool to better serve our community swimmers.
The COVID-19 global pandemic presents many challenges this school year for students, staff, and the community. We’re committed to our approach which provides both an in-person and virtual option for families. Our 20/21 reopening plan respects the wishes of the vast majority of our parents, over 90%, asking for in-person school while also providing a virtual option.
It’s a great honor to serve as the Superintendent of the Mosinee School District. Special thank you to the Mosinee School Board for their willingness to serve in a very public role to improve the lives of students throughout the school district. Please feel free to reach out to me at any time with your questions, concerns and/or suggestions. I will continue to be a regular at local events and look forward to continuing to meet community members.
Sincerely,

David Muñoz, Superintendent
