The following information and rules are provided to establish and help maintain a cooperative and safe atmosphere on board each school bus. In order to create and maintain a positive setting, the student riders, parents, school bus drivers, school bus company, and school officials must all work together to insure safe transportation. This transportation is a privilege provided by the citizens of the school district. Therefore this privilege may be denied to those pupils who disregard the rules and regulations as stated below. [See Section 120.13 (1) (b), Stats.]
Parents, please review these rules and expectations regularly with your children.
- The school bus is viewed as an extension of the school. All rules that apply at school apply on the school bus.
- Listen and follow the driver’s instructions the first time they state them to you.
- Be polite and courteous to your fellow bus riders and the bus driver.
- Take a seat on the bus and remain in your seat until you arrive at school or your bus stop. Standing up or walking around in the bus while it is moving is not safe.
- For safety reasons such as choking or food allergies eating and drinking of food or beverages while on the bus is generally not allowed. Please help keep the bus clean for other riders, do not litter, throw any garbage in the waste basket when you exit the bus or take it with you.
- Always keep your hands, arms, or head inside of the bus and not out of the windows. Windows are only permitted to be lowered half way. Do not throw any objects or debris out of the window or inside the bus.
- Any type of disturbance which might interfere with the safe operation of the bus or with the comfort of passengers on the bus will not be allowed. Any bullying, fighting or objectionable language will not be tolerated. Violators will be subject to suspension of their riding privileges. Drivers have the right to assign seats to any or all students who ride the bus.
- Electronic devices, such as smart phones, tablets, cell phones etc. are allowed to be used as long as they do not create a distraction and/or interferes with the safe travel of the bus or the safety and the welfare of others. Drivers will have the authority to tell students to put electronic devices away while on the bus if they suspect or feel that they are being used inappropriately.
- Any passenger’s who intentionally or unintentionally damages any portion of the school bus may have riding privileges suspended until damage is paid for.
- For safety and security reasons students are to only be picked up and dropped off at points jointly established by school authorities, parents and the bus company. A note or a call to the student(s) school from the parents to establish a bus pass for the student(s) is required. A minimum of 24-hour notice is required.
- Only scheduled riders are allowed to ride the bus. Space does not allowed for guest riders on any bus routes. No pet animals allowed.
CONSEQUENCES FOR OBJECTIONABLE BEHAVIOR may include verbal warnings, assigned seating, written warnings and removal from the bus. Any student(s) may be removed at any time without prior warnings if the incident is deemed severe.
