Step 1 - Referral
Beginning in 3rd grade second semester, a child may be referred to the Gifted and Talented Program. Teacher(s) or parent(s) complete the appropriate Gifted and Talented Referral Form to request additional services for a student with gifted and talented needs in the areas of math and/or reading.

Step 2 - Identification
After the completed referral form has been received by the district, a consent form to test the child will be mailed home. Once the signed consent has been received by the district, student data will be collected using the following assessments: the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scales, Mosinee School District’s math/reading universal screener, WIAT III, and supporting documentation and results by classroom teacher (Forward Exam, Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment reading level, Fastbridge, Bridges, and Eureka unit test scores).
Step 3 - Review of Data
Within 60 days of receiving consent to assess the student, all necessary data will be collected and reviewed as a team which will include the school psychologist, building principal, gifted and talented coordinator, and classroom teacher(s). A Gifted & Talented Student Summary will be completed to document the data used in the identification process.
Step 4 - Eligibility
If Eligible
If the student meets the requirements for identification into the Gifted and Talented Program in the area(s) of math and/or reading, a meeting will be held with parents where a copy of the Gifted & Talented Student Summary will be shared with parents/guardians. A Differentiated Educational Plan (DEP) will also be created and shared with parents and classroom teachers to help facilitate the collaboration between the classroom teacher(s) and the Gifted and Talented Coordinator to support and communicate the needs of the student within an inclusive classroom model. The DEP will be reviewed and updated yearly and a copy shared with parents. A record of yearly program services will be kept in the student’s cumulative file.
If Not Eligible
A copy of the Gifted & Talented Student Summary will be sent home to parents/guardians. The team will make recommendations using general education services to best meet the student’s needs.
