PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Support) is the school-wide behavior system that we use at Mosinee Elementary School. The philosophy of this program is that by rewarding students for positive behavior through compliment critters, praise, and rewards, students will begin to build intrinsic motivation to behave in a positive way which will help create a positive learning environment in all areas of the school.
Through the PBIS program, Mosinee Elementary has developed a common language for behavior expectations in each area of the school. Each child is familiar with our core values of safety, respect, and responsibility. Students receive a compliment critter when they demonstrate any of the core value qualities. The student then puts their ticket in a class bucket. These students will be recognized on our morning announcements (which can be found on Facebook and in ClassLink). When enough compliment critters are earned, and our school thermometer is filled, our students receive a school-wide celebration.
Another way we acknowledge good behavior is through our Golden Ticket system. Students can earn Golden Tickets by portraying qualities that reflect our monthly school trait. For example, in the month of September, we will be looking for students who are RESPONSIBLE. If a student is given a Golden Ticket, they will receive a prize from the office and a positive phone call home.
Lastly, we have our TOP BANANA recognition. This focuses on a student who has worked really hard during a month's time. This can be for any positive behavior or action they have shown. If a student achieves this award, they will receive a positive phone call home, certificate, and a Top Banana magnet.
The elementary school has also adopted a PBIS mascot, Bobby the Bobcat! You will see more of him as we transition over to this new motivational character.
